When I was younger cats were my favorite animal, second only to horses. As the years went on and my family bought Old English Sheepdogs (best breed in my mind after those guys) I started becoming what is known as a "dog-person" and didn't think that I could want cats again.
After having two dogs with big personalities the thought of cats seemed boring. Why would I want an animal that refuses to play with you and just lies in the sun all day?
When my husband and I got married, he brought with him his cat. She is a wonderful feline and at first I was worried that she wouldn't like me and decide that she didn't like me and there was nothing that I could do about it, thank you very much.
For the first few months that we started living together, she would be scared of the alterations to her life; a new environment and a stranger in her territory. After living in the same house for 10 years, this was a big change for her. She would only come out in the open if my husband was home. At times it felt like I would never gain her trust, let alone her love.
It took a while, but she slowly started to warm up to me. From hiding under the bed when I am home, to now greeting me when I walk in the door, the journey from stranger to friend has been a long one.
What felt like an eternity was actually less than a year, and in that time I have gained her trust, her love, and her friendship.
I still love dogs and hope to get one in the future. I don't know if I will call myself a cat-person or a dog-person, but for the time being I know one thing for sure: I'm a Cookie-person.
This blog will be dedicated to Cookie and all of her quirkiness and how she keeps our lives interesting. We hope that this will brighten your day. Weekly we will welcome you to take a look into our little family's mascot; Cookie.
Welcome to the biggest part of our life.
Cookie being pampered by hubby.
